New Delhi [India], July 23: Sri Lankan cricketers have emerged as key performers in the latest Women’s T20I Player Rankings, following their impressive showing in the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup 2024 in Dambulla.
“Unbeaten starts to the Asia Cup from Sri Lanka and India have helped a group of their players progress on the updated rankings list,” the ICC noted in its statement.
Sri Lanka’s flawless performance in the Women’s Asia Cup has placed their top players prominently in the newly announced ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings. Chamari Athapaththu, the team’s captain, made headlines with the first century of the tournament during their victory over Malaysia on Monday.
Sri Lankan bowlers, however, stole the spotlight with significant jumps in the rankings. Inoshi Priyadharshani and Udeshika Prabodhani were notable movers, showcasing commendable form with the ball in Dambulla.
In their last two matches of the Asia Cup, Priyadharshani claimed three wickets, earning her a three-spot rise to fourth place in the updated T20I bowlers’ rankings. Prabodhani climbed four places to secure the 30th position after bagging two key wickets in Sri Lanka’s game against Bangladesh.
England’s Sophie Ecclestone and Sarah Glenn retained their top positions among T20I bowlers following remarkable performances in their recent series against New Zealand. Meanwhile, Australia’s Beth Mooney continued to dominate as the No. 1 batter in T20I rankings for women’s cricket.
Sri Lankan skipper Chamari Athapaththu remains in ninth place despite her stunning century at the Asia Cup.
Indian players also marked their presence, with Harmanpreet Kaur rising one spot to equal 11th, Shafali Verma moving up four spots to equal 11th, and Richa Ghosh climbing four places to 24th after strong performances at the Asia Cup.
Additionally, Bangladesh star Nigar Sultana improved two spots to reach 17th, following her unbeaten 48 runs against Sri Lanka.
West Indies captain Hayley Matthews continues to dominate the T20I all-rounder rankings, while UAE youngster Kavisha Egodage made the most significant leap of the week, rising 11 places to 30th after scoring 62 runs and taking five wickets across two matches at the Asia Cup.
