United Arab Emirates Women’s skipper Esha Rohit Oza chose to bowl first against India in the fifth match of the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup 2024 at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium.
India’s off-spinner Shreyanka Patil has been ruled out of the tournament due to a finger injury. Tanuja Kanwar has been called up as her replacement and is set to play in place of Renuka Singh Thakur in the playing XI.
India enters the match after a commanding win over Pakistan by seven wickets, while UAE seeks to bounce back following their loss to Nepal by six wickets.
“We want to bowl first. It’s a fresh wicket, and we aim to utilize it to restrict India. There were a few fielding errors in the last match, so we’re focusing on sticking to the basics,” Esha Rohit Oza said after winning the toss.
India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur expressed satisfaction with the opportunity to bat first. “We wanted to bat anyway, so we’re happy with this. We’ll go with the flow and see how we start. Shreyanka is not playing due to injury; Tanuja replaces her,” Kaur said.
