Zomato has announced that it will begin actively removing artificial intelligence (AI)-generated images of food dishes from restaurant menus after receiving multiple complaints from customers. The company’s CEO, Deepinder Goyal, shared the decision in a post on social media platform X, emphasizing the importance of maintaining customer trust.
Goyal stated that while Zomato uses AI to enhance operational efficiency, it will no longer accept AI-generated images for food representation on restaurant menus. He explained that such images had led to customer dissatisfaction, with many feeling misled by unrealistic portrayals of dishes. These issues, according to Goyal, resulted in increased complaints, refunds, and lower ratings for restaurants.
In his post, Goyal urged restaurant partners to avoid using AI for dish images, noting that the company would begin removing them by the end of the month. He also requested restaurant owners who have not yet invested in authentic food photography to reach out to Zomato’s catalogue support team for assistance.
This move follows a broader trend of food delivery platforms seeking to improve customer satisfaction by ensuring that images of dishes accurately represent the food being offered.
On the stock market front, Zomato’s shares saw a 1.77% increase, rising by 4.61 points on August 16, 2024, with the company delivering a return of 112.65% to investors over the past year, demonstrating strong performance. Additionally, Zomato has been in talks with Paytm to acquire the latter’s movies and events business, according to a June update.
