CM Stalin to Inaugurate Rs 706.50 Crore Industrial Housing Facility for Workers in Tamil Nadu’s SIPCOT Park

Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, August 17, 2024: Chief Minister MK Stalin is set to inaugurate a state-of-the-art industrial housing facility at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Vallam Vadagal, Kanchipuram district. The facility, developed at a cost of Rs 706.50 crore, is aimed at providing modern and secure housing for female workers employed at Foxconn and other industries in the region.

This housing project is the first of its kind in India, marking a significant step forward in the state’s industrial development, particularly in the growing electronics manufacturing sector. Tamil Nadu Industries Minister TRB Raja, announcing the inauguration, highlighted the project’s role in enhancing the quality of life for women workers in the rapidly expanding manufacturing ecosystem.

Spanning over 20 acres, the facility is located in the Sriperumbudur Taluk of Kanchipuram district and is designed to accommodate 18,720 workers across 13 blocks. Each block is a Stilt plus 10-floor structure, with dormitory-style rooms designed to house six workers per room. In total, the complex features 240 rooms in each block, ensuring a large capacity for the workforce.

The housing complex is equipped with a host of modern amenities aimed at ensuring comfort and security. These include both indoor and outdoor recreational areas, sports courts, solar-powered water heating systems, a 1 MW rooftop solar power plant for eco-friendly energy, sanitary napkin incinerators, mosquito nets in all rooms, and RO plants for clean drinking water. Additionally, over 1,170 CCTV cameras will be installed throughout the facility to ensure round-the-clock security.

Other features of the project include a dedicated kitchen and dining facility with a capacity to seat 4,000 workers, rainwater harvesting, sewage treatment, solid waste management, and landscaping, promoting sustainability and a green environment.

This initiative underscores the state’s commitment to improving the living conditions of industrial workers, particularly women, as it continues to expand its manufacturing sector.
