Nita Ambani Congratulates Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh on Historic Paris Olympics Bronze

Following the remarkable bronze medal victory by Indian shooters Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh in the 10m air pistol mixed team event at the Paris Olympics, Nita Ambani, member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and founder-chairperson of the Reliance Foundation, congratulated the duo for their historic achievement.

Manu Bhaker created history by becoming the first Indian woman to win two medals at the same Olympic Games. After securing a bronze medal in the women’s individual 10m air pistol event earlier, she joined forces with Sarabjot Singh to earn bronze in the mixed team competition.

Congratulating the pair, Nita Ambani said, “Our athletes create history again with India’s first-ever medal in a mixed-team event at the Olympics! Congratulations to Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh for winning bronze in the mixed 10m air pistol. A special call out to Manu for becoming the first Indian to win two medals in a single Olympic edition. The entire nation is keeping its fingers crossed for her hat-trick now! Here’s wishing all our athletes the very best for the Games ahead. Go, India, go!”

In the bronze-medal play-off, Manu and Sarabjot outshone South Korea’s Lee Wonho and Oh Ye Jin, winning 16-10 with consistent and sharp shooting. This victory marks India’s first-ever Olympic medal in a shooting mixed team event.

Manu also etched her name in Indian sports history as the first athlete from independent India to secure two medals in a single Olympic edition. The feat puts her in the company of Norman Pritchard, who won two silvers for India in the 1900 Olympics, albeit in athletics.

Additionally, Manu joins an elite group of Indian athletes with multiple Olympic medals, including PV Sindhu (badminton silver in Rio 2016 and bronze in Tokyo 2020) and Sushil Kumar (wrestling bronze in Beijing 2008 and silver in London 2012).

Earlier in the qualification round, the duo finished third with a score of 580-20x points to secure their spot in the play-offs, where they delivered an unforgettable performance to clinch their medal. With this victory, India’s medal tally at the Paris Olympics rises to two, sparking hope for more historic wins.
